Meet Owen Gray

I have always enjoyed endurance events, not only as a way to manage the stress of being a partner at Novogradac & Company LLP (a public accounting firm) but also for personal discovery – What am I capable of?  This has led me to completing multiple Ironman events; endurance bicycle rides and endurance open water swims including 20 Alcatraz crossings and Point Bonita to San Francisco.

I was in a seemingly innocent cruiser bicycle accident 6 years ago. That innocent accident resulted in me now being the owner of a left shoulder prosthesis.  That accident along with several other incidents have shown me that there are no assurances in life and it can change in the blink of eye.

This led me to enter the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in 2021.  I rowed the Atlantic Ocean as a solo entrant, successfully completing the row in 70 days, 19 hours and 29 minutes.  While completing the row was one of my greatest accomplishments, it paled in comparison to the amount of money we raised for Okizu.  I was humbled by everyone’s support.

The Pacific Challenge offers a whole new set of challenges – rowing a new ocean, doing it as part of a mixed pairs team and an inaugural race.  I look forward to once again challenging myself in new ways while helping raising funds for Okizu.

Mahalo!
